Rick Harriman – Senior Fellow

innovation consultant, art of problem solvingRick is a Senior Fellow at Synecticsworld. Prior to assuming his current role, he served as CEO and Managing Partner of Synecticsworld for several decades. In client work across multiple industries, his three areas of deepest current interest are social innovation, strategy and building capability for innovation.

Rick is a patent holder and the author of a number of articles and book chapters on creativity in business. He is co-author of Creativity, Inc.: Building an Inventive Organization that is published by The Harvard Business School Press. The Best Practices Institute endorses Creativity, Inc. for its attention to results and return on investment for creativity and innovation programs.

Rick is an Innovation Fellow in the Technology and Entrepreneurship Center in the John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences at Harvard University. He co-teaches a course there in Innovation in Science and Technology.  He is a Social Innovation Fellow at Babson College, focusing on bringing the concepts and tools of entrepreneurial thought and action to Tanzania.

Prior to joining Synecticsworld, he held positions in marketing management and new product development at General Foods. Rick holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Massachusetts and an M.B.A. from Columbia University.

Outside of work, Rick is actively involved in several community organizations currently serving as the Chairman of the Board of The Cambridge Community Foundation. For relaxation Rick enjoys cooking, skiing, contemporary art and home renovation. He resides in Cambridge with his wife Kristen.
